County News
The 2010 County season started with the County Foursomes in March. Our team of James Curry and Andrew Scrimshaw defeated Percy Wood 9 & 8 and Westerhope 1 up but lost to Goswick 1 down.
Victory for Andrew Scrimshaw in the Northumberland Schools Championship staged at Hexham on 21st April. Andrew shot a 1 under par 70 to win his first event of the season.
A surprise defeat in the Davison Cup 3.5 to 1.5 to Wallsend in the first round played on 2nd May. A win for Dan Atkinson and half for David Gilroy the only bright spots. Retaining the title proved too much.
Victory for Andrew Scrimshaw in the NJGA 36 hole strokeplay championship played at Blyth on 2nd May. Andrew shot 74 and 71 to win by 3 shots - with a chip in at the last. Runner up and defending champion was Thomas Rowland with a 75 and 73. A great first and second for Prudhoe!
Thomas Rowland secured a very respectable 6th place in the ZFL Masters played at Heworth on 9th May. Over 36 holes he shot 141 (71 & 73) to finish 3 shots behind winner Mark Penny.
In the County Championship played over 72 holes at Goswick on 22nd & 23rd May 6 of our players made the cut after 36 holes - that is 20% of the final 30 players - a record perhaps?. Scores and postions were 8th Thomas Rowland (293), 9th Danny Shevill (294), 12th James Curry (297), 22nd Andrew Scrimshaw (303), 25th Kevin Robson (306) and 27th Denny Ward (308). Unfortunately David Craig failed to make the cut shotting 81 in both rounds. The runaway winner was Phil Ridden who shot a tremendous 276.
In the NJGA County Championship played at Bedlingtonshire GC in May both Andrew Scrimshaw and Thomas Rowland qualified for the knockout stage. Andrew lost in round 2 to Nicky Maddison 2&1 while Thomas made the semi final losing to Will Robson 3&2. Richard Robson-Crosby won the championship.
A top 4 finish in the County - 1st Division Teams Championships played at Close House in June. Our team Thomas Rowland (72 & 68), Andrew Scrimshaw (75 & 71) and James Curry (77 & 70) shot a combined 433, 4 shots behind the winners Arcot Hall.
Victory for Andrew Scrimshaw in the Nick Faldo Golf Series played at Nottingham on 10th May. Andrew won the 36 holes competition in the under 18 age category. He will go onto the international championship to be played in Ireland later in the year.
A top 4 finish for Thomas Rowland with rounds of 73 and 66 (equalled course record)in the Newbiggin Mammoet Silver Tankard played at Newbiggin on 12th June. Andrew Scrimshaw finished 13th with rounds of 71 & 74. The winner was Craig Penny with rounds of 67 & 69.
In the County Matchplay Championship played at Westerhope on Saturday 19th June two of our players made the cut after 36 holes. Denny Ward (147) and Andrew Scrimshaw (149). Scores for our other players were Danny Shevill (153), Nick Dent (154), Thomas Rowland (157), Kevin Robson (162), Shaun Philipson (162),James Curry (N/R) and David Craig (N/R).
In the first knockout round Denny defeated Dean Smith 1 up but lost 6&4 to Sandy Twynholm innthe quarter final. Andrew lost 2&1 to Nicky Maddison in the first knockout round.
Andrew Scrimshaw's golfing achievements have taken another step forward with his selection to play for England School Boys against Wales. In the same week as his selection for England he passed his driving test what a double!
Victory for Thomas Rowland in the Northumberland Under 18 strokeplay Championship played at Prudhoe on Sunday 11th July. Shooting rounds of 70 and 69 Tom won by 7 shots. In third spot was Andrew Scrimshaw with two rounds of 74.
In the Carris Trophy played at Woodhall Spa from 20th - 22nd July Thomas Rowland finished in a creditable 25th position shooting 303 over the 72 holes, only 14 shots behind the winner. Unfortunately Andrew Scrimshaw failed to qualify for the final 36 holes.
In the Fewick-Smith Championship played at Matfen Hall on Saturday 24th July Thomas Rowland finished 4th on 136 two shots behind the winner Nicky Maddison. The scores for our other players were - Andrew Scrimshaw (141), Danny Shevill (142), Denny Ward (148), James Curry (150), Kevin Robson (150), Nick Dent (153) and James Ward (171).
Playing at St Andrews on Monday 4th August Thomas Rowland won the Open Boys Scratch Medal with a 3 under par 67. In the same event Andrew Scrimshaw finished 9th shooting 1 over par (71) both qualified for the Merchants Cup (matchplay knockout). Boosted by the victory Thomas went on the win the Merchants Cup 4&3 in the final - on his way be beat Andrew in the quarter final.
Team News
Disappointing start to the season with defeat to Close House in the Daily Mail Team Event played on 13th February. Team players, Malcolm Ward, David Craig, Steve Nichol, Paul Waggott and Micky Wilkin went down 4 - 1 in a close fought match.

The 2009 Season Summarised
During the season both Andrew Scrimshaw and Thomas Rowland gained their first selection for the senior County team. Along with James Curry and Danny Shevill we had 4 players representing the County.
NJGA Matchplay Championship
Victory for Danny Shevill who beat Richard Robson-Crosby in the final
NJGA Strokeplay Championship
Thomas Rowland was the winner of the Junior County Strokeplay Championship held at Northumberland with rounds of 75 and 68 for a total 143. His 2nd round score decided the tie beating Nicki Maddison of the City of Newcastle
NUGC Fenwick-Smith Trophy
Staged at Alnmouth (Foxton) Danny Shevill finished runner up 1 shot behind Mark Penny. However his 2nd round score of 63 set a new course record.
Northumberland and Durham Strokeplay Championship
Victory to Andrew Scrimshaw in the Junior Inter-County Strokeplay Championship at Alnwick. Shooting 67 he won by 5 shots.
